Workshop – Clay + Plants

Join us for an evening of elemental creation with this collaborative workshop led by Herbalist, Katie Reed and Ceramic Artist, Laura Schmalz .

You will learn to make your own botanical incense with guidance from Herbalist, Katie Reed. These 6 incense cones will be rich with herbs and botanicals you will hand blend yourself. Katie will lead you through a fun and thorough process which will allow you learn more about these beneficial herbs and to create your own medicinal smoke ritual at home!

Laura will guide you through a fun hands on process to make your own incense burner out of real, high fire clay that will work for your new incense cones and also traditional stick incense. She will help you craft a dish and unleash some creativity as you sculpt a few fun elements to add to your dish. You will then be able to paint your work with bright colourful pigments!

*Since your clay work will need to be fired in a high temperature kiln, you will leave you finished pieces with Laura at the end of the workshop. She will fire and glaze your piece at her studio and package everything up for you to pickup at Ottawa Market by March 3rd.

Our workshop will be hosted by the lovely folks at Ottawa Market after hours. They will kindly keep the cafe open for us so you will be able to purchase some snacks and refreshments.
